Matthew Bajor is an artist and engineer living in Lower Allston practicing his craft at Artisan's Asylum, a state-of-the-art community maker's space in Brighton. Bajor's collection of works includes small sculptures of fine coldworked glass and large-scale metal sculptures with LEDs that spin, sparkle, and react. He uses glass, metal, light, and motion combined with traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge fabrication techniques to create works that inspire and engage. More information on his fabrication can be found at https://bostondigitalfab.com and artworks at https://matthew.bajor.art
“As a resident of Allston-Brighton who has the opportunity to practice my craft just up the block from our apartment, I consider Allston to be the heart of my operation. Whether walking along the Charles, in the parks, or down the streets of Lower Allston, the neighborhood continues to inspire feelings of belonging. This has led to my newest large-scale sculpture: DRKHRT. With Allston-Brighton being so central to my practice and life, I’m fortunate to share this new work with my friends, neighbors, and community members! The Grove is central to my daily universe, it’s wonderful to have the chance to create an installation that will be enjoyed by the community with the added bonus of beautifying daily walks with my Golden Retriever, Futaleufu.” – Matthew Bajor
DRKHRT is a large-scale sculpture composed of three 9-foot tall, pixelated hearts. With colorful lights, glinting glass, and a dark steel structure, DRKHRT is artist Matthew Bajor's latest expression of love for his community. Built at Artisan's Asylum by Bajor with help from local community members, DRKHRT's 18in steel cubes provided an opportunity to grow skills, make friends, and have fun.
The primary philosophy of DRKHRT is one of love, collaboration, and growth, with an acknowledgement that it is also one of the leading causes of pain and suffering. What we don't love rarely hurts us.
DRKHRT will be on display in The Grove (the corner of Western Ave and N Harvard Street) Friday, March 7th through Friday, March 28th.
